Industrial Visit

Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (TCET) holds an intercollegiate technical festival each year. This festival is an excellent platform for technology enthusiasts from all over the city, irrespective of their college, or streams.

As per tradition, each one from the college committee contributed in the festival making Zephyr’16 a thumping process. IETE-TCET made significant contributions in building up Zephyr’16 on a large scale.

Needless to say, every festival, especially ones of such magnitude, needs sponsors for support, it is almost impossible to start working on the logistics and the chalked plans. Zephyr’16 had major sponsors which made it possible for us to successfully conduct the festival.

The industrial visit conducted by IETE was a 9 day trip, from 3rd to 11th January, 2017. The place visited was Kerala. We went to some of the major cities like Munnar, Alleppey and Cochin. There were three companies that we visited. It included the renowned electronic company, Kerala Electrical & Allied Engineering Co. Ltd. Other industries that we visited during our visit were Hykon India Pvt. Ltd. and Kolullumalai Tea Factory.

The students learned about different process involved in it. We saw a whole process from tempering to packing. Students observed the working of various machines that are used to manufacture the transformers including coils, iron core, etc. They also learnt about the processes used in the assembling of inverters and tea making. The motive of the industrial visit was to bring the student face to face with the working and a chance to interact with the aficionados of the various industries.

Big Data Seminar

A Seminar on Big Data was conducted by IETE Students’ chapter in March 2017. Seeing the importance of the topic and the wide future scope, it was conducted for students of all four years. Over 100 students from F.E. to B.E. attended the seminar of 2 hours.

Officials from Seed Infotech were called to give students some insights on the Big Data. The whole program was well received by the students and was a great success.

Such new and latest seminar topics provides students an opportunity to deal and understand importance of such topics and seminars which are not included in the Mumbai university syllabus but important according to the industrial point of view. Which are available in outside arena of the college premises but restriction of time is always a factor.
